Everybody loves a monthly favourite, so here is my round up for the month. Now, let’s just say that my budget has been a bit tighter following Christmas so I’ve been shopping my stash to switch up my makeup bag and rediscovered some old favourites!
There’s a bit of a theme running through my beauty favourites: moisturisation. I’m a combo skin kinda gal, but this icy weather we’ve been having recently has really taken it’s toll so I’ve been focusing on radiance and dewiness.
Weleda Skin Food
An oldie but a goodie! I only discovered this last summer, a bit late to the bandwagon I know, but I don’t think I could ever be without this. This moisturiser has a very thick, almost waxy texture and takes a good while to work out how to use but once you crack it there’s no turning back. My favourite use for this cream is on my lips, my lips have been dried and cracked as of late and using this as an intensive overnight mask is the only way to solve my chapped lips problem. I’ve also given a tube to my brother use on the eczema under his eyes and it’s worked a treat.
Available at: Beautymart
Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector
During my ski season, this was the only hand cream that would combat my scaley and bleached hands. Cleaning toilets every morning and skiing every afternoon really took its toll on my hands and nails, I asked my mum to send me out a tube of this and it solved all of the cleaning products and winter air damage to my hands. I can’t recommend this stuff highly enough, slather on your hands or feet in a thick layer over night for deep moisturisation or use throughout the day as a non-greasy, light hand cream. The smell is rather nostalgic for me, a rich, earthy, herbal scent that reminds me of gardening with my mum aged seven. Highly, highly recommend.
Nyx Angel Veil Primer
I’ve heard flutters around the beauty community that the Angel Veil is a pretty good dupe for the Hourglass Mineral Veil. Chloe Morello, swears by her Hourglass Primer and I’ve been lusting after it for years. Unfortunately my student budget doesn’t stretch quite that far so at nearly a third of the price, the Nyx Angel Veil seemed a more realistic option. I love it! I really struggle with keeping my skin matte throughout the day, but this really does a good job and feels so silky on the skin. If like me, your skin is fairly combo, very oily t-zone, dry perimeters and quite sensitive at times, I think you’d really enjoy this. The silicone base is great for minimising pores and mattifying and the fragrance free formula doesn’t irritate my dry patches, very very impressed.
Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream
I honestly have been through four tubes of this stuff, I discovered it as a spotty greasy 14 year old and have cheated on it many times with other foundations but always end up coming full circle back to my beloved CC cream. I’ve just never found anything that sheers out when used with a damp sponge but then builds up to a good medium coverage when buffed in, in a way that this base product does. Personally, I think Bourjois make some of the best base products on the high street but this is a true gem. On an everyday basis, I use this with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to create a creamy complexion, let my freckles show through but cover up any discoloration and acne scars. I really can’t rave about this enough, the only down side is the rather restricted colour range.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop
Right, I NEVER thought the day would come where I smother my face in a shimmery lotion. But, I’ve tried mixing half a pump in with my primer and actually really been enjoying the effect. This cold weather has me craving that summer glow and this has been more than satisfying my need. Peachy enough to provide a bronzey glow but not inappropriate for this time of year. I also really enjoy using this on the high points of my face and across my decolletage.
I also have a fitness favourite for the month. Since I’m running a half marathon in a couple of months; I thought I’d treat myself to some new running bits.
Nike Pro Running Tights
I was one of those people who threw all exercise leggings in the same umbrella but boy was I wrong; I don’t think I will ever go back! They don’t go see-through during squats, they’re warm for outside but cool for inside, they’re flattering, they’re comfy, they’re just perfect (they are also in TK Maxx for £16 at the moment). I can already feel myself running faster.
Blog of the month – The Luce Cannon
My beautiful and wonderful friend has just become a glambassador for Soap & Glory, this involved relaunching her blog and the whole thing looks great! I highly recommend having a look and saying hi if you are a student looking for some budget friendly beauty and a sprinkle of sass. Her links are below.
Face of the month – Wayne Goss
I could write pages on Wayne Goss and his legendary makeup skills. His latest video has given me all the makeup inspiration and yet is so simple and requires minimal products. Wayne is the king of beautiful skin and I adore his classical approach to enhancing ones beauty instead of transforming the entire face. Take a look if you’re after a beautiful smokey eye.
That’s it for January, I hope you enjoyed and check back next month for another favourites round-up.
