In theory, spring is coming. But, with the apparent return of the Beast from the East, who knows when we’ll see some spring sunshine. The Beast from the East is not going to stop me spring cleaning my makeup bag and adding a few new bits and bobs so here’s five things I’ll be changing on my face this spring.
Oh, there is nothing more that I love than a colour injection. There have been three ways in which I’ve been adding wearable colours into my staple look (and two of them involve my favourite colour: orange!). Firstly, blue eyeliner. I’ve been trying to nail blue eyeliner ever since Steph Pratt debuted on Made in Chelsea sporting a sky blue water line. Where as that look doesn’t quite work for me, I’ve been replacing my signature cat eye with a blue liner. Specifically the NYX Vivid Brights in Sapphire. If you have blue eyes, you NEED to get this eyeliner in your life, especially for only £5.50. The Urban Decay Naked Heat palette has recently made its way into my life (better later than never!). I’m sure you’ve all seen plenty of photos and looks using this palette and this is another golden purchase for my blue eyed gals. I love this palette because a) it makes my eyes pop (pair it with the NYX eyeliner) and b) it’s a very easy way to add slight touch of colour to your look but you can also take this palette to the extreme for a large dose of burnt oranges. Finally, I’d say one of the easiest ways to add colour is through your lip colour. I personally love an orange lip so here’s a few favourites ranging from a true orange to more peachy tones: L’Oreal 227 ‘Hype‘, Aerin ‘Coral Sand‘ and Revlon ‘Juicy Papaya‘. I’m an orangey, peachy, corally lip fiend so if you have any other suggestions, please let me know!
Personally, I like to have a bit of colour all the year round so you’ll often find me stocking up on Garnier Summer Body Lotion in all months of the year. I’ve tried my fair share of moisturising gradual tanners and this is the only one that doesn’t leave me streaky and the only one I actually enjoy the smell of. In terms of facial tanning, I have a key product (aside from bronzer) to pop a tan. An orange blush is the bronzer fan’s best friend. My favourite is the shade ‘Lantern’ in the Sleek ‘Pumpkin’ Palette, but be warned, apply this is a very light hand. This blush makes you look instantly healthier and brightens your entire complexion. Or you can dab a little of your L’Oreal ‘Hype’ lipstick on the apples of your cheeks and quickly blend. If you don’t believe me, you really just need to try it for yourself.
All of these steps are beginning to tie together. I’ve begun to replace my powder products with liquids (aside from the blush). Firstly, The Bareminerals Sheer Sun Serum bronzer is beautiful! It gives you the most wonderful, warming colour but is sheer enough for your freckles to shine through. I buff this across the tops of my cheekbones and forehead to bronze up my complexion. I then hit the top of my nose and across the brow bones to tan the high points of my face (where the sun would naturally hit). After the liquid bronzer, I go in with my Becca ‘Champagne Pop’ Shimmering Skin Perfector, just very lightly on the high points just to make the bronzer pop a little bit more. This highlighter would also work well mixed in with the liquid bronzer.
I prefer to lighten my base as spring awakens. I’ve swapped out my beloved Bareminerals Mineral Powder Foundation in favour of the newly launched L’Oreal ‘Bonjour Nudista’. I’m not much of a full coverage girl in general, instead favouring skin that looks like skin and this is the perfect product for it. Utterly to die for. If you’re after a bit of a sun-kissed glow, this is definitely the sort of thing you can go a shade deeper in and apply all over without looking like you’ve badly matched your foundation shade. I’ve yet to try anything else from this collection but I’ve got my eye on the highlighter drops and peach blush!
A-hoy glow-getters! This ones for you, especially my oily skin gals who shy away from a glow injection. Honestly, the metallic stripe highlighter and a glowing nose tip you can view from space is really not my thing. Instead, I’m after that ‘glow from within’, that pregnancy glow (without getting pregnant). I’m a big believer that the best way to produce that glow from within starts with skincare and what you’re putting in your body. But that would be unrealistic to think that sometimes we don’t just need a glow-getting quick fix. My Soap and Glory ‘Bright and Pearly Radiance Cocktail’ is the perfect base that combines skincare with makeup. The little spheres of shimmer just crushed as your dispense the product to product a very fine shimmer which can be applied all over the face. This product can be applied by itself for as a ‘no make-up’ make-up staple or as the first step in your makeup routine as a base radiance. This combined with the L’Oreal Bonjour Nudista is a match made in spring-ready skin heaven.
So there we go, a few tips and tricks to inject a bit of spring into your life, even if there’s not much sign of it arriving anytime soon.
